The best thing I ever did to a motorcycle seat.
I have been trying to get the seat on the 450 to be more comfortable by cutting out foam and installing more foam less foam and different kinds of foam even adding gel cell and just about everything I tried helped but not enough. I finely decided I was not going to be satisfied until I did a Foam-In-Place-Seating. The same thing that is done to wheel chairs and race car seats, this is where most of the foam is removed then liquid flexible foam is poured in a plastic bag with the person sitting on the seat, conforms to the person’s body.
After much internet research I chose flexible foam from Smooth-On called Flex Foam-It. It comes in many different densities and after emailing the company they were kind enough to send 4 of the cured samples I requested. I chose #14 because it was the closest to the original foam. Not wanting to destroy the original shape or stile of the seat I cut out the foam leaving about 1-1/2 inches all around the outer sides. I found out the hard way it is best to make this cut on a 45 degree angle so the foam is at an angle the deeper the cut. Then I cut about 4 inches from the very bottom of the foam and placed it back in the bottom of the seat pan, then covered that with ¾ inch firm foam cut to size, placed all that in a small garbage bag and made the pore, after cutting away the excess covered the entire seat with ½ memory foam just to smooth everything out and guess what? It fits my bottom like a glove! Very happy with the results!
The buttons where a little tricky after removing the cloth from the underside I was able to tie some very small tie wire to the button where small cable ties are installed, by putting one in front and one in back of each button they can be pulled down evenly, the 450 seat only has two buttons and I can just imagine how hard this would be with the 250’s four buttons.
