Okay, so after 70 trouble-free miles I decided to gas up and head out on the interstate. Considering nearly all the miles have been at 55 MPH, and that I added a huge airbrake of a windshield, I got 47 MPG. So this has me wondering, what's everyone else getting for gas mileage?

Most of the 450's i have ridden get around 50mpg to 55mpg. But this is with a small Sportster windshield. One I had about 5 years ago use to get around 60mpg but it only had 7,000 or so miles when I got it. And I went through everything on the bike, it had set in a carport for 8 years.

Well I'm not happy with the windshield. Not only does it catch all the wind and throw you from side to side, it also buzzes where the "adjustable" part of the windshield is above the head light. Guess I'll be looking for another.

My wind shield is a National Cycle Street Shield For 7/8 in. and 1 in. Handlebars (clear) - I am very pleased with the shield, 4 point mounting system although the lower mounts are fastened to the forks with hose clamps this might be a bummer way to do things for some people, easy on easy off

The Sportster windshield is mounted in 4 places also. Makes it real steady, and is small enough to hid behind when adjusted right and no wind in the face.

As you may or may not know I am running a set of 32mm Mikuni carburetors on my "87 450 Rebel and getting 58 miles per gallon using 89 octane non-ethanol gas. The bike has saddle bags and a windshield all the rest of the bike is stock.

Non-ethanol gas is a bit hard to find in Ohio.

Today I took the bike out for a fall foliage tour. I rode down to Holmes county which was rated #3 by National Geographic for best scenery world wide. The fall colors were at peak! Not many leaves dropped yet so everything was gorgeous! At fill up time my gas mileage came in at 50 MPG this time around.

I bet it was spectacular, I sometimes get to see some fall foliage if I go far enough north like Gatlinburg Tennessee and I especially like the rolling hills that are so different form the flat roads around here.

We don't get fall foliage around here. Most of the trees are oaks or pine. We will get a great spring wildflower show if we get enough rain around here.
