this last week I have been taking the rebel everyplace I go since my truck is experiencing some issues. today it was raining and i still had to get over 25 miles to work.
i packed a spare set of clothes in a plastic bag and put that in my backpack, put my cell phones in ziplock baggies, geared up and headed out.
firstly.. i was soaked through in a matter 2 miles. also, I should have worn my full helmet. not that i minded my face getting wet. but i wear the cut off leg of a pair of sweats over my neck and face in order to keep warm in cooler times. well. the fabric got all wet and now i know what its like to be waterboarded. it was very hard to breathe thru the wet fabric. my glasses were so wet that things got blurry. i had to stop and wipe them several times. it really didnt do much good. i could see the lines in the road but not a whole lot of deatil. when i got into town, i stopped and wiped the lenses off at a gas station. not much help. with no front fender on the bobber i was eating rooster tail all the way. I know the road that i take really well, ridden it for years wet and dry and there is never much traffic, so i felt confident that i wouldnt find any sudden puddles. and while it want my safest ride, i made it to work intact. albeit soaking wet. (next time the full helmet would make things quite more tolerable)
when i walked into the building my boots were making a cartoon like squish noise.
i will be the first to state that i do not condone my own stupidity. just had to get to work.

This was me last Monday and Tuesday. My truck was OOC and the only thing I had was the Reb. And even though I had a FF helmet, I had to ride in the dark, so the glare from headlights on my water specked face shield didn't make viewing much easier. I also have the raingear, but I haven't found a suit yet that will keep you totally dry. And to top it off, I ripped my slip on booties, so now only one side is good. For some reason, I notice that when my shoes/boots fill with water, the left side gets more volume than the right side. Seems to happen every time.

I am a fair weather rider. I have had to ride in the rain in the past but was not much fun, back when there wasn't a helmet law, so no helmet, no rain gear, just levies, chaps, and leather coat. I haven't done any rain riding since. Lucky my wife and I have 2 cars.

I've only been caught in the rain a couple times. The thing that scares me the most about it is that when traction is worst, and I'm virtually invisible to cagers is the same time i'm struggling to see. My full face has nifty air flow vents to prevent fogging and all that, but in certain head positions it still fogs, and rivulets of water make seeing the road difficult. With my half helmet my glasses do all the work. Not hard to picture how well that works. So far My strategy has been to keep going fast enough to avoid being run over until I can get out of traffic and wait it out. Fortunately I don't have to ride in rain on a regular basis.
